Welcome to my blog! I would like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Kathryn Marxen-Simonson. I live in Portland, Oregon. I work as an occupational therapist (OT) for Portland Public School District and graduated from OT school in December 2014 from University of Puget Sound. I graduated in May 2011 with my undergraduate degree in Equine Science from Colorado State University. I am an avid horseback rider, I love to go hiking, camping, and do other fun outdoor activities. I love public speaking and have had to opportunity to share my experiences at two of Guide Dogs for the Blind’s events, speaking in front of up to 550 guests. I was born premature at 25 weeks gestation and as a result I am diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity, an eye condition that only affects premature infants.
The purpose of this blog is to reflect upon, share, and explore my past and current experiences as an individual with low vision. My hope is that by sharing my experiences and story, I will be able to help and provide support, encouragement, and inspiration for others with low vision.
Please feel free to share your comments and thoughts in relation to my posts. I would love to hear what you have to say!
